Lucasj37 Wins DTD Team Challenge!

Saturday morning 8am and I wake with the mother of all hangovers. A Friday night out in Headingley (Leeds) is probably not the best preparation for a poker tournament but hey ho.
Up and out to the local greasy spoon for a full English is the cure. Luckily I have the best girlfriend in the world (as some of you now know), and she drives me in style to our hotel while I get some kip.
Sat nav is a life saver as it saves the usual arguments about where we are. We arrive at our hotel in good time and chill out at the bar until 1pm when we get a taxi to D.T.D.
We meet Hyp, Wolvo, Cam, Bas & Robo, everyone is friendly and make myself and Donna feel very welcome. Our first impressions of the club are very positive the stylish decor and professional air set the scene for the tourney and I’m raring to go.
My first table has SteveDaRake & Dr Owl to my immediate left. Play is very tight and I manage to steal my way to 11.5K by the first break. The table is split shortly after play recommences and I am moved to Bas’s table where Mick joins to my right. First hand at new table- Play folds round to the button who raises to 3x BB on my BB so I push all in as I have him well covered. He asks how big my pair is and folds showing an A, I smile and reply “I just hate people pinching my Blinds” (I had 99 ).
Soon after Bas is out so I decide to be table captain (sometimes letting Mick have a go LOL) I continue to steal my way to a healthy stack without opposition, Mick then raises in early position and I immediately re-raise, play folds back round to Mick who, after some thought, folds showing AQ I show AK just to let the table believe I’m playing genuine hands.
My biggest stroke of luck comes soon after when I raise with KK and get re-raised by a tight player who has around a third of my stack, I push all in for him to snap call with AA!!!!!!!!!!!! K hits on flop and there is no improvement for him on the turn or river-Phew- I apologise whilst adding his chips to my increasing mountain.
I’m running like a well oiled poker machine and feeling more and more comfortable and confident with each hand, helped along when I get dealt AA UTG. I raise 4xBB hopping for action as I had been busy at the table, it folded to BB who calls- flop is J high with 2 hearts no straight draw, he checks & I bet 4K which he calls- turn brings a 3rd heart and he checks again. I check behind him as I’m worried he was on a check raise after hitting his flush & I have the A of hearts so take my free card looking for a 4th heart. River comes and delivers my flush! He checks again so I bet 5K hoping he hit a flush too- he calls and insta mucks mumbling to himself.
Shortly after I have KQ suited in early position- I raise 3x BB and it folds round to the same guy who pushes for his last 18.5K, around a quarter of my stack……….I think it through and read him as being weak and maybe on tilt so I call- He shows QJ and doesn’t improve- My mountain gets even higher.
Blinds are getting really high and there are plenty of short stacks capable of damaging my mountain and I go cards dead for the next hour, bleeding chips along the way to the final table.
I start the final table in second position with about 56K, there is one short stack with everyone else around even- 7 out of the 9 cash. Short stack leaves early as anticipated and the bubble arrives. I get TT and raise to 10K (Blinds 1.5K & 3K I think!) Folds round to chip leader who goes all in, he’s been tight so after some thought I decide I can afford to fold leaving me on average stack. I decide it’s all in or fold from now on and I push with any half decent hand.
The final 4 seemed to last forever and the guy we needed out was hanging on in. I raise his BB frequently without opposition but managed to dodge his bullets when contemplating doing it for the umpteenth time (v lucky!) He finally leaves the table when the other non-EMSer calls his all in AQ v A3.

TEAM B ARE CONFIRMED AS TEAM CHAMPIONS

It doesn’t take long before I’m heads up with Robo, when my raise with Q9s is re-raised all in -I call as I will only have 7 BB left if I fold- he shows A8 and I hit a straight on the turn WOW I’m really buzzing now & I’m in a no lose situation against the team captain. After a quick pee we settle down to business, 4 hands in when it’s obvious that we are both tired and happy to end it Robo shoves and I call with A8- he shows K2 and no improvement makes me the winner.
The winner on the day was EMS it was such a buzz seeing all our shirts taking over the card room supporting each other. It was fantastic meting up with you guys, thanks for making myself and Donna feel so welcome, special mention to Mick for the entertainment, Hypno for his calming words at the final table & Jeff for the chocolate!
