Romanello Wins EPT Prague
Roberto Romanello played some great poker to take down the EPT Prague and the €640,000 first prize. The Welshman has enjoyed a series of cashes in big tournaments over the past couple of years but this win is undoubtedly the biggest of his career.
The start of play saw the three shortest stacks, Roberto Nulli, Manual Bevand and Jan Bendik bust out almost immediately, but a long slog ensued thereafter until Marco Leonzio finally departed in fifth. Peter Skripka went fourth; he had earlier lost a huge pot to Romanello when he got his money in pre-flop with 33 against the Welshman’s pocket kings.
Third place went to Marcin Horecki in very unlucky circumstances, Emiliano raising from the button with AJ and calling Horecki’s all in with big slick from the big blind. Both players flopped top pair but Horecki’s hand was good until the river brought a jack to despatch him to the rail. This left Romanello, with just over 10 million chips, heads up against Bono, who had a little short of 7 million.
The heads up ebbed and flowed for just over an hour with little progress made by either player until Romanello was dealt pocket tens to Bono’s AJ. The money all went in pre-flop and the board was dealt. In truth, it was almost all over on the flop, as T44 came down to give Romanello a full house. Bono needed runner runner, either jacks or aces, but a five on the turn made his position hopeless.
Pay-outs for the eight players who made the final table were as follows:
1st: Roberto Romanello – €640,000
2nd: Emiliano Bono – €435,000
3rd: Marcin Horecki – €247,000
4th: Peter Skripka – €163,000
5th: Marco Leonzio – €130,000
6th: Jan Bendik – €100,000
7th: Manuel Bevand – €71,000
8th: Roberto Nulli – €54,550
