But would rather sit, naked, in a bath of snakes, on the edge of skyscraper, than go to the dentist!

Forcing a 50/50'ish outcome!

Writing game for young peeps in which part of the score is based on a series of 100'ish, 50/50 outcomes.

Problems:

1) After a bit of play-testing, I can see that isn't exactly fair, as the same route through the maze can give radically different final scores.

2) Most peeps (including myself to some degree) have a poor grasp of random numbers over a small sample size. So if the true result for "50/50 events" was 40% in one game, then 60% in the next, they'd think the software was wonky.

Solution:

Forcing results closer to 50% during the game, if they start to reach the lower or higher bounds of what the average player might expect.

Additional problem:

If smarter maths teacher type peeps were to play the game, would they be suspicious that a 50/50 outcome, over 100 events, over a number of games, NEVER hit fewer than 43% or more than 57%?

What I really want to know is, how far can I force the outcomes of 100 events (each with a 50% chance of happening), to 50% overall, without anyone smelling anything fishy over the long-term?

Just got home from playing football to find we've had a powercut in our house. Apparently it's been out all evening. I've been in 5 mins and I'm lost already. Have about 2 hours life on my laptop but no Internet (posting this off phone). How on earth did people cope in the old days before electricity?

In other news, the houses over the road have got all their lights on though somehow, bastards!

I have sack with 2 balls, one white, one red...

There's a benefit in picking white ball...

I take a ball from the sack, record it, and then return it...

After 87 goes, I've picked the white ball 32 times, that's 37% of the time.

Question 1> How unlikely is this? A one in X occurance where X is?

Question 2> Would the average person expect such a result to be "extremely unlucky" rather than just "very unlucky".

After reading the Millennium series (the girl with the dragon tattoo) etc and being slightly disappointed the thing that really appealed to me was the way in which computers/hacking was used throughout. I do understand that it was a work of fiction but also that alot of what they did is possible. Basically i want to know more about manipulating people/ my own computers, does anyone have somewhere is should start or any good forums/websites.

I know this sounds odd but i am ****ing bored atm.

Recently moved to Belfast and we got the fastest Virgin Broadband you can get and people on the street seem to be using it :frown: Obviously security is pretty important but my pc doesn't have wireless capabilities (to change the password with) and neither does Jono.
